This is an intriguing object. Hand carved with great skill from a single piece of wood, it is definitely military related, and specifically The Mercian Regiment of the British Army.

I have yet to fully get to the bottom of why this was made but a good guess would be some form of “Memento Mori”. A fascinating and quality carving with a great gothic look and patina.
