Unusual 19th Century Cutler’s Stool
£185.00
A cutler’s stool is a three-legged stool used by workers in the cutlery and silversmithing industries. The stools were often made from wood scraps left over from cutting the bench peg space in the workbench.
This curious example originally dating from the mid to late 1800’s, has a lovely patina and signs of a long and well used life. It also has what you might call an extension. At Some time in the past, and certainly not recently, the seat has been raised to 56cm. Whether this was to cover the protruding leg or simply to suit the worker better we’ll never know. But the result is a fascinating and unique stool.
