Victorian Oval Sorcerers Mirror
£165.00
Sorcerer mirrors were an early 16th century design, used to throw light around via the convex optics, thereby giving them “magical powers” – hence the name alluding to a magician or alchemist.
This is a nice example with a reddish brown surround and a small bracket to the lower edge, upon which three candle sconces would have sat to aluminate the room.
It measures 43cm x 32cm. The signs of wear are commensurate with age although overall it is in remarkable condition.
